Walking, Cycling and Horse Riding

New Hanson Shepherd's Hut is situated amongst a network of footpaths and cycle tracks.

The Tissington Trail can be accessed from Alsop Station, just minutes from our shepherd's hut and provides a pleasant and scenic journey for cyclists, walkers and horse riders alike. Following the path of the former railway, the trail is 13 miles long from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay, where it joins with the High Peak trail. Cycle hire centres are situated at Mappleton and Parsley Hay

For an alternative way to explore the beautiful Peak District Scenery horse-riding is available at the Tissington Trekking Centre.

Watersports Carsington

Nearby Carsington Water, Severn Trent reservoir is a great site for outdoor pursuits. The visitor centre houses a number of shops as well as an interactive exhibit where you can learn about "The Water Story". Along with walking or cycling the 8 mile round route, as well as a number of bird hides and a wildlife centre for nature lovers, there is also a water sports centre. Visitors can have tuition in sailing, windsurfing or kayaking or for the more experienced simply hire equipment and take to the water.
